METCO provides continuing support to the service provider for maintenance and expansion of its Nortel SDH backbone network which comprises STM-16, STM-4 and STM-1 network elements. Oman's fixed and mobile services are dependant on the network.

The TN-16X is capable of 2.5Gb/s (16xSTM-1) whilst the TN-1X can handle 63 X 2Mb/s tributaries (STM-1) and the TN-1C up to 16 X 2 Mb/s. A TN-16X can take a variety of traffic interface cards including signals of 34,140, 155Mb/s and STM4o whilst a TN-1X can be fitted with STM1o and other traffic capacities besides 16x2Mb/s cards.
