Our Microwave Department which commenced in 1993 has installed more than 250 Links of Microwave in the State of Kuwait.

METCO is the leading supplier of SDH equipment in Kuwait and Oman. In Kuwait, we have supplied Nortel's TN-16X (STM-16) backbone system via optical fibre that is used to interconnect TN-1X and TN-1C (STM-1) equipment from Nortel. This is a network that is constantly being enhanced covering the area from Jahra in the North to Ras Al-Zor in the South. At present there are 150 Network elements. In addition there are several stand alone rings of TN-1X. All the elements are managed by a dedicated management system at the central control centre.

METCO is in the process of adding additional Network Management capability along with the relevant software upgrades.

The Digital Cross Connect (DXX) system from Tellabs has been providing access level network for data and voice for a service provider company in Kuwait. The unique availability of DXX is to optimise the SDH/PDH and to interface different types of system, thus providing single transmission platform.

The customer has deployed the Tellabs Martis DXX network for primarily the following reasons:-

  • To groom the existing PDH and SDH traffic
  • To groom the various Base station traffic at concentration sites
  • To compress the PDH traffic thus providing additional bandwidth, and thus avoiding bottlenecks on transmission media
  • For their Private Voice and Data network.
  • Finally to have a network that can be centrally monitored and managed with ease.

The flexibility and proper network configuration has enabled the provider to utilise the DXX network to the maximum extent. The network is capable of handling various Data interfaces with connections starting from 8Kbs, Voice connections with and without signaling, 2Mb, STM-1, LAN interconnections, frame relay and ATM connections. It has grown from a three node network to full fledged Access Network with 3 cluster nodes, 43 basic nodes, 3 midi nodes, 79 mini nodes and more than 50 modems.

METCO is also a leading installation company for Infrared links in Kuwait. The equipment from PAV systems in Dubai is used to provide 10-BaseT 10M or 100M data or 2Mbit G703 links of upto 4Km range dependant upon model used. Our team of experienced installers surveys the sites, installs and aligns the links.
